ABOUT E&H ELECTRIC SUPPLY COMPANY The firm was founded as Theobald Electric Company by brothers Harold and Edward Theobald, Jr. in 1946.
First located at Eighth and Main, the Louisville company changed its name to E&H Electric Supply, Inc., and moved to Twelfth and Magazine in 1947. Nearly 20 years ago, E&H (for Edward and Harold) moved to its present location at 804 South Fifth Street. The size of the firm’s building has been expanded to more than double its original 30,000 square feet; most of the expansion is contained in a warehouse addition.
Founded as a complementary business to a construction firm owned by Edward Theobald, Sr. E&H specialized in a broad line of electrical products, carrying reputable lines that remain with the company today, such as Allen-Bradley, Hubbell Wiring Devices, ITE, General Electric lamps and lighting, Micro Switch, Appleton, Asco products, and Hoffman enclosures.
The change in business emphasis began more than twenty years ago, when the Theobalds
recognized that the technological superiority of programmable controllers presented
a newly affordable area of improvement for their customers, and added that
second phase of service.
The challenge of the high technology markets was met
so successfully that the firm entered its third and present stage when it was
acquired in December, 1982 by Consolidated Electrical Distributors, a California-based
company that owns hundreds other such businesses in the United Stated and Great
Britain, including nine other locations in Kentucky.
E&H carries many product lines, the largest being Rockwell Automation, which
includes control products, motor starters,
drives, programmable controllers, push buttons, and other related products
and services.
